I have good news for current hosting customers. 2017 is the year of revamping of technology, rates, and processes.
As you may know, PHP7 is now super stable and ready for production. In layman’s terms this means we can run sites faster with less resource requirements. Which means I can now host more sites on the same servers and receive the same performance as before.
Another important change has been Googles search algorithms based on SSL. Starting next year, sites that do not run on SSL are going to be given lower search rankings than site which do run SSL. Luckily Let’s Encrypt, an open source certificate authority, has removed most of the cost of getting SSL on sites.
What this means for you and any future hosting clients:
- I have dropped the price of hosting to $100 a month per site (Exceptions are sites getting more than 30,000 unique visitors a month)
- Domain renewals are now $20 a year and will be billed along with hosting invoices
- Repo management is now $5 a month per repo (If you don’t know what this is, you are not a repo customer and will not be billed this)
- All of your sites will now be hosted with SSL at no additional charge
I am now treating my servers a community. We all pay a little to keep the community alive. There will no longer be any annual billing discounts but what you save with the per month rate and the free SSL certainly makes up for it.
