Plugin developer, network administrator, automater of all things.
Mat’s career in technology began when his computer crashed while browsing available degrees at a college he was accepted to. He thought, “I want to know how to fix that” and enrolled in Computer Systems Technology. Before picking up two degrees and two diplomas with high honors, he was hired by the attended college to instruct two of the classes he was enrolled in.
He spent the next few years working as Director Of Technology for the area’s leading web marketing agency. Although he spent most of his focus on network administration and office technologies, it became obvious that his true talents lay within programming. During this position he created many applications using various languages for industry leading companies. Many of these applications are still used today. This is also where he discovered WordPress. After using it to build 50+ websites and apps, he was hooked.
In 2013 Mat moved to the freelance space to build without boundaries. He contributed to countless open source projects, published high rated free and paid WordPress plugins, maintained several nationwide clients, and built websites and applications for numerous high profile domestic and international companies. His favorite thing is to accidentally stumble on a WordPress site using one of his plugins. With more than one million downloads, this happens semi regularly.
Mat also worked as an employee for Modern Tribe, 10up, and X-Team. He focused on setting trends and bringing the latest technology to the WordPress community. He has extremely positive things to say about both companies and considers his employment with them to have been vital to his success and his industry leading expertise.
Mat is known for making things work that other people have said could not be done. When he is not pushing the boundaries of technology, you will usually find him wandering around the Atlantic Ocean on his boat, only reachable by radio. Sometimes you won’t find him aboard because he is scuba diving somewhere below exploring underwater caves.
